Help make Waikanae Predator-Free!

Join the WAIKANAE RAT PACK so we can protect Waikanae’s unique wildlife. Together, we can restore our native birds and create a safer, more vibrant environment our wildlife and community.
We are a community-driven initiative led by the Waikanae Lions Club, dedicated to making Waikanae a predator-free sanctuary. Our mission is to bring back the birds — every rat caught makes room for a bird.
By removing predators like rats and mice, we’re giving our native birds, lizards, and insects the chance to thrive once again.
We’re offering *free rat traps to local households and businesses. It’s simple — order your trap today and help us make a difference.
Let’s unite to protect our wildlife and work towards a brighter future for Waikanae!
*Waikanae residents only. Donations or Koha are appreciated.

What our supporters are saying!
I’m delighted that Waikanae Lions has taken the initiative to set up Predator Free in our area and actively support their efforts to eliminate pests. Forest and Bird is a voice for nature, so we say Ka Pai! We look forward to seeing our community more involved in this work, and to seeing nature thrive as a result.
Pene Burton Bell, Chair of F&B’s Kāpiti-Mana Branch
We are very pleased to be part of the local branch of the movement. It gives us a reason to get out and have some exercise, feel like we are doing something of use for the community and a chance to meet new people. Along the way, we learn a little more about the country's fauna and the connections between the different animal and bird systems in our area.
